Fochabers Heritage is a registered Scottish Charity No. SC028752. It comprises a small group of visionaries who thought that wanting to achieve something was enough to get a result! And so it has proved to be! The original aim was to collect and preserve personal photographs and memories of people who live and have lived in the village.
What has been achieved is a collection of over 500 photographs, which is constantly being added to; an information leaflet about the village called “A Stroll around Fochabers” which gives visitors a brief tour of the village and its history; a book of living memories and photographs entitled “Memories are made of this” and an art print, available to buy, from an original painting by Edinburgh artist Alan Dawson. The latest addition to the sales items is the story of Captain George Preston Stronach GC, one of our local heroes.
Fochabers Heritage is now housed within the Fochabers Folk Museum and Heritage Centre, where their collection of photographs, historical documents and other artefacts may be seen. The work of the group continued in 2005 with the Home Front Exhibition, put together with the help of a grant from the Lottery Fund. Planned for this year is another book based on World War Two, local memories of the Home Front in Fochabers.
Fochabers Folk Museum and Heritage Centre is open from April to September inclusive.
